The Story

The journey began in 2003 when the pioneer, Shri. D.L. Nongspung envisioned the potential of producing quality tea in the highlands of Mawlyngot and the tea plantation was established. Five years later, in September 2008, the first batch of organic tea was brought to the market. Subsequently, the Urlong Tea Integrated Village Cooperative Society Ltd. (IVCS) was registered in 2011. Today, the Urlong Tea Estate produces one of the finest Single Estate-Highland-Organic-Orthodox tea in India.

In 2017, poul&arin, two offbeat travellers, in their quest to travel unexplored destinations and learn about the tribal life, landed into this village of utmost serenity. Realizing the importance of connecting this part of untouched beauty with the urban travel enthusiasts, they teamed up with Nongspung and his daughter RIbahun to bring Urlong to the urban consumers outside Meghalaya.

During one of the numerous tea-room conversations the team Urlong came up with the idea of forming Urlong Estates, an initiative to support tribal farmers in different part of the country. Today, Urlong Estates is represented by tribal farmers from Meghalaya, West Bengal and Maharashtra.

Urlong Estates present a variety of high quality organic food supplements, spices and tea grown in the partner villages.
